With just 35 luxury residences spread out over seven floors, Washington Harbour is one of Georgetown’s most elegant and sought-after condominium communities. Designed by iconic architect Arthur Cotton Moore, the mixed-use complex is made up of two curvilinear towers with smaller buildings attached and was delivered in 1986 after a lengthy period of planning. With its signature columns and fountain, the postmodern development quickly made its mark as a go-to place to live and visit. Components include the ultra-spacious condos, multiple restaurants, offices, retailers, river cruise boat rides, ice rink, and a glorious rooftop swimming pool.

More About Washington Harbour, DC
The residences at Washington Harbour tend to be quite large, ranging from a rare studio pied-a-terre at around 795 square feet, all the way up to around 5,857 square feet. Opulence is the key word here, with curved interior walls, dramatic ceilings, interior columns, and fireplaces. The original floors were combinations of parquet and marble, but many owners have remodeled over the years.
Layouts can have as many as four bedrooms, and many of the city homes have libraries or dens. The coliseum-type shape of the structure, along with multiple wings, allows for interesting room shapes as well as fascinating private outdoor spaces that can wrap along the condos’ perimeters, or present as large terraces that are perfect for entertaining. These are true waterfront condos, directly overlooking the Potomac River with the most incredible views.
This upscale, live, work and play complex is the epitome of a Washington, DC destination place, sitting directly at the edge of the Potomac River and immediately adjacent the Georgetown Waterfront Park. The area was originally the site of Georgetown’s harbor docks and warehouses, where ferries would arrive from Rosslyn, Virginia bearing tobacco and other goods that would ultimately be shipped to far-flung destinations.
But as centuries passed, the warehouses fell into disuse and were replaced by industrial plants and mills. By the modern era, those too had outlived their usefulness. A new period of redevelopment ensued, as has often been the case in the nation’s capital. A lengthy period of study, planning, and zoning entanglements lasted throughout the 1960s and 1970s before architect Arthur Cotton Moore finally got the go-ahead for Washington Harbour in 1980. Construction would take another six years.
Sitting just feet from the water, Washington Harbour is on a peninsula that also includes the Thompson Boat Center and the first lock of the C&O Canal. There are multiple boat cruise lines that dock right alongside the building, along with a delightful boardwalk and outdoor cafes overlooking the water. Restaurants at the complex include Fiola Mare, Sequoia DC, Farmers Fishers Bakers, Guapo’s, and Nick’s Riverside Grill. Also by the water’s edge is the circular outdoor Washington Harbour Ice Rink, typically open from November to March depending on temperatures. This is the largest ice rink in all of Washington, and a highly popular place to skate. Washington Harbour is at the southeastern part of Georgetown, next-door to Foggy Bottom and conveniently close to the District’s financial center and federal government institutions.
