The Willison Condominiums
Located at 1425 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005 | Logan Circle
With just 23 spacious residences, the Willison is an eight-story condominium in Washington, DC’s Logan Circle neighborhood. Redeveloped in 2002 by Abdo, the brick and limestone structure was originally an apartment house dating back to 1927. The building was gutted and recreated with far fewer, and much larger condo residences that offer a winning combination of contemporary and traditional style. Floorplans are primarily one bedroom plus a den, two bedrooms, and two bedrooms plus a den. There are also oversized penthouses at the top with up to four bedrooms and 3,500 square feet of space.
Logan Circle has been a hotbed of real estate development in recent years, a response to the ever growing need for more housing in the nation’s capital. This has resulted in a fascinating blend of different construction styles and methodologies. Historic buildings are one of the backbones of the neighborhood, ranging from rowhouses to old apartment buildings, as well as former commercial structures that can be transformed into residential living space. Notable condominiums in the neighborhood include the Berret School Lofts (a former schoolhouse dating to 1889), Rainbow Lofts (a former auto body and paint garage), Citta 50 (one a coal factory), and Cooper Lewis (a former hardware store).
More About the Willison, Washington, DC
Apart from the handful of oversized penthouses, condo residences at the Willison typically range from about 1,320 to 1,900 square feet in size. These units are noticeably roomier than many other residential buildings in the area, a conscious choice on the part of the developer when reconfiguring the building. Features typically include pale hardwood floors, gas fireplaces, and open living, dining, and cooking areas for a Great Room effect. Many of the residences have private outdoor spaces, such as ground level patios, Juliet balconies, or rooftop decks. The gourmet kitchens are nicely appointed with stone counters, custom 42” cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. The contemporary bathrooms have honed limestone counters, and in-unit washers and dryers are also standard. The building has a marble lobby, extra storage, and secure parking for some but not all units.
