The Overlook Condominiums
Located at 1708 Newton Street NW, Washington, DC 20010 | Mount Pleasant
The Overlook is a historic condominium building with 17 residential units spread out over three levels. The handsome gray brick structure with its distinctive roofline sits along a treelined street near the crest of Washington, DC’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood. The pet-friendly condos are also just about a block from Piney Branch Park, an offshoot of Rock Creek Park.
Originally built in 1922, the former apartment house was renovated and converted to condo usage in 2005. There are both one and two-bedroom floorplans, varying in size from about 450 to 750 square feet, with the majority of units in the 600-700 sq. ft. range. Known as “a village in the city,” Mount Pleasant was residentially developed in the early 1900s, after the arrival of a streetcar line. Other historic condo buildings in the area include the Argyle, Northbrook I and II, and the Embassy. The latter is often associated with the next-door Columbia Heights neighborhood, but is actually in the Mount Pleasant Historic District.
