There is a wide mix of floor plans at the Newport, with studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and even some three-bedroom units. Sizes range from around 369 to over 1,000 square feet of living space. While many of the condos are one the smallish size, there are some very roomy options that pop up on the market occasionally. Most of Dupont Circle became a historic district in 1976 but there was a busy period of redevelopment before that time. The Newport is one of several contemporary buildings from that period. Others include Apolline, Boston House, 1800 R, and Dupont West.
More About the Newport, Washington, DC
Entering the Newport, one will notice a rather unusual lobby feature—the front desk is enclosed with glass windows! No, it’s not a bank or a doctor’s office, it is indeed a condominium building. The residences themselves truly run the gamut, from original or near original layouts with parquet wooden floors and galley kitchens to beautifully remodeled residences with newer-style wide-plank floors and gourmet kitchens that have been opened up to the adjacent living spaces. One of the really nice features is the amount of natural light, due to huge windows that were unusual at the time of the building’s construction. It was part of the midcentury movement toward a new style of living, and the Newport was considered to be an especially in-vogue arrival on the scene in 1966. These days, the combination of open and contemporary spaces, competitive prices, and a terrific Dupont Circle location can prove to be a compelling attraction for condo shoppers.
There are some nice amenities as well at the Newport, including a 24-hour staffed front desk, a rooftop deck and lounge, and a swimming pool. Utilities are included in the condo fees, and there is an underground parking garage with spaces available for purchase. The building is on 21st Street between N Street and New Hampshire Avenue in the western part of Dupont Circle, a few blocks from the West End neighborhood and also close to Rock Creek Trail, Francis Park, and other popular greenspaces. The Dupont Circle Metro Station is about five blocks away, and Downtown DC is also conveniently close. Also nearby is the new West End Library, Trader Joe’s, Starbucks, and dining options like Chef Geoff’s, Ellington Park Bistro, Blue Duck Tavern, Pines of Florence, and so many others.
