The Iowa Condominiums
Located at 1325 13th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 | Logan Circle
With its impressive Beaux-Arts ornamentation, the historic Iowa residential building was named for Iowa Circle, which later became known as Logan Circle. The seven-story structure sits at the corner of 13th and O Street, just a block from the traffic roundabout with its grassy inner park. Designed by Thomas Franklin Schneider and completed in 1901, the former apartment building is listed in James Goode’s Best Addresses. The building is also included in the Greater Fourteenth Street Historic District. Other condominium communities in the neighborhood include Logan Station, Berret School Lofts, Citta 50, and Lofts 14.
The landmark Iowa building went through an extensive restoration and renovation process in 1979, with developer David Clark adding additional townhouse wings along O Street. There have been multiple upgrades since that time, especially within the residences themselves. There are approximately 98 units in all with an incredible array of shapes and sizes from one to three bedrooms and from about 450 to over 1,500 square feet in size. About 45 of the units are apartment-style and are in the original structure, with the remaining 53 townhouse-style residences in the three wings. If viewed from above, the complex would resemble a rectangle with the four buildings forming outer walls, and a huge courtyard and gardens in the middle.
