More About The Foxhall, Washington, DC
The Foxhall was designed by Milton Fischer, one of Washington’s top architects in a busy mid-century modern era. He was also an associate architect for the Watergate complex. The nine-story Foxhall building was similar to other residential buildings in the neighborhood, including Sutton Towers, catering to an upper-class clientele, surrounded by parklands and buffered from the city’s hustle and bustle. Many of the individual condos at The Foxhall have been substantially remodeled over the years by some of Washington’s top present day architects and interior designers.
A long, circular drive leads bordered by landscaping leads up to The Foxhall, with a concave front entrance and a stunning, modernist lobby. The residences are quite spacious, typically ranging from 800 square feet for the smallest one-bedrooms, to over 3,200 square feet for select apartments. Larger units have sets of double front doors.
The original layouts included a combination of hardwood and marble tile floors, with expansive walls of windows in the main living areas. Bedrooms have oversized casement windows. The outdoor balconies are oversized, and ground floor units have sliders leading out to private patios. Penthouse residences are coveted here, including redesigned showcases that have been featured in media outlets like the Washington Post.
The Foxhall is in the same area as other 1970s era luxury condos and townhomes, including Sutton Towers. There are entrances in front and back, with lovely landscaping and an incredible reflecting pool that extends along the back perimeter of the building in different sections, complemented by terraced lounge areas and sun decks. Other amenities include a staffed front desk, a doorman, and a heated indoor swimming pool and lounge area with a wall of massive windows overlooking the outdoor terraces. There is also a sauna, a well-equipped fitness center, outdoor tennis courts, and parking. Glover Archbold Park and its hiking trail are next-door to the east, and popular restaurants and businesses such as Chef Geoff’s, Wagshal’s Deli, and Starbucks are within easy walking distance.
