The Clyde Condominiums
Located at 1124 10th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 | Mount Vernon Triangle
In a neighborhood that has become synonymous with recent luxury condominium construction, the Clyde offers a visit back to yesteryear. The six-story brownstone was originally built in 1920 as a downtown apartment house and was renovated in 2003 as a boutique condominium. While the exterior has been faithfully preserved, the 13 residential units are modern, open, and very spacious. The building with its blocky front bays is between L and M Street in the Mount Vernon Triangle community, and directly across from the tiny yet very charming 10th Street Community Park.
The developers had a choice to make when renovating the historic Clyde building. The most obvious and profitable path would have been fitting as many units as possible within the old structure. But instead, they went in the opposite direction with unusually spacious two-bedroom residences that range from around 1,300 to 3,500 square feet. There are typically two condos at each level, with one supersized penthouse at the top. There are also two units at the basement level. The preservation and renovation of older boutique buildings is quite common in many parts of Washington, DC, but not so much in Mount Vernon Triangle where you will more often find large contemporary complexes such as City Center DC, City Vista, and the Whitman.
More About the Clyde, Washington, DC
Fronted by a brick sidewalk, low black iron fencing and leafy plantings, the Clyde looks like many other buildings in the District. But step inside one of these immaculately renovated residences and you’ll discover highly appealing modern layouts that are open and airy. Pale beech floors are bathed in natural light from the oversized windows and complemented by recessed overhead lighting. The German-made Butlhaup kitchens are especially stunning, hugging the walls with custom cabinetry and panelized appliances, and augmented by brushed metal counters and matching islands with cooktops and chef-grade hoods. The bathrooms are every bit as chic, with designer vessel sinks and frameless walk-in showers. Many units have private outdoor spaces, and each has either two or 2.5 baths. Some also have private elevators. In short these are no ordinary cookie cutter condos, but instead, urban elegance with a modernist ethos.
The Clyde is a pet-friendly building for condo owners. There is limited parking available for a fee, off a rear alley. Beyond that, you won’t find the type of full service amenities available at many larger residential developments, but once again, this is a boutique condominium with only 13 units. The location is technically Mount Vernon Square, at the southern edge of Logan Circle. But more broadly speaking, the two side-by-side Mt. Vernon communities in Downtown DC are synonymous. It’s all part of a vibrant urban landscape, rich with boutique retailers, coffeeshops, bars, restaurants, museums, entertainment, and more. Local eateries include Supra, Calico, Yardbird Table & Bar, Unconventional Diner, Sfoglina Downtown, Kinship, and so many more.
