Langston Lofts is also sometimes referred to as the Langston Hughes Condominiums, and was named for the noted poet, playwright and activist Langston Hughes. The literary giant lived in many part of the country as well as abroad, as well as spending a portion of his 20s in Washington, DC where he struggled to adapt to the city s social structure while working as a hotel busboy. This early period of his life made a lasting impression in the nation s capital, including the well-known Busboys and Poets bookstore and coffeehouse chain which was named in his honor. In fact, the 14th Street location for the popular bookstore is right downstairs, likely another major reason for the naming of the condo complex. Other well-known condo communities in the area include Union Row and 2030 Atlantic Plumbing.
