Glover Park Luxury Real Estate
Once part of the northern extension of next-door Georgetown, Glover Park has never really had that same ultra-upscale shopper/visitor reputation. It’s quieter and less populated with far fewer tourist attractions. Here, the attraction lies in lovely surroundings, walkable sidewalks, and an inviting cross-section of upscale real estate including a number of gorgeous single-family homes nestled next to Whitehaven Park to the south. The neighborly enclave is close to everything but feels as if it’s in the middle of nature. It’s that relaxed sense of community that helps solidify the neighborhood as one of Washington’s most appealing places to live.More About Glover Park, Washington, DC.
The land that the neighborhood occupies was originally part of a 17th century land grant and remained farmland until residential development commenced in the early 1800s. A village known as Wilberforce existed along what is now Wisconsin Avenue. But it wasn’t until the 1920s that Glover Park as we know it today really came into existence, named after Charles C. Grover, a wealthy banker and land developers. About all that remains of the neighborhood’s earliest existence is Holy Rood Cemetery with gravestones dating to the 1830s.
As residential development picked up, older homes in the southern portion of Glover Park were joined by newer properties, including front porch rowhouses with either brick or clapboard exteriors, often designed in the Federal or Tudor style. Detached and semi-detached homes also sprung up, here and there, and as time passed, some garden apartments also appeared. The overall effect is that of a pleasant and leafy neighborhood that has grown up organically and doesn’t feel as compressed as DC’s more urbanized areas.
Locals enjoy tending their community garden plots, socializing with neighbors, and visiting the farmers’ market. There is also a highly popular string of restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue at the eastern border of the neighborhood.
