Gateway Georgetown Condominiums

Located at 2500 Q Street NW, Washington, DC 20007 | Georgetown

One of the largest condominium complexes in Georgetown is the Gateway Georgetown. Named for its location right at the eastern edge of the East Village, the well-known address is the first residential building you’ll see after crossing the Dumbarton Bridge into Georgetown from neighboring Dupont Circle. Designed by Francis Koenig and completed in 1942, the sprawling seven-story brick structure was originally known as the Carlyn apartments before being converted to condo usage in the modern era.

There are 372 residences at Gateway Georgetown, from tidy studios measuring less than 300 square feet, to duplex penthouses with up to four bedrooms and over 2,000 square feet of luxurious living space. The majority of units find a happy middle ground however, with an emphasis on spacious one and two-bedroom layouts. Given the sheer number of condos at this venerable building with its circular front drive and porte-cochere, buyers stand a good chance of finding a unit that fits their needs and their pocketbook. Other condo buildings in the East Village include 3014 Dent Place, Sheridan Garage, Dumbarton Court, and the Montrose.

More About Gateway Georgetown, Washington, DC

You’ll find an abundance of different layouts at Gateway Georgetown, but the common denominator is a spacious and sunny ambience. Built in 1942, the large apartment complex was a forerunner of a midcentury trend of more expansive window arrangements. In this case, Koenig designed the units with sets of triple windows, including the boxy window bays. The original floors were parquet hardwood, and many still remain. Given the age of the building, there have been lots of remodeling by individual owners, such as upgrades to the vintage galley kitchens with stone counters and stainless steel appliances. The pet-friendly building offers a number of amenities, such as a front lobby, a fitness center, a rooftop deck, a huge grassy courtyard, a bike room, extra storage, and garage parking for a rental fee.

This is a very verdant area, from a giant back courtyard with grassy lawns, to adjacent stands of trees. Rock Creek Park Trail is literally steps away, along with Montrose Park to the north and Francis Dog Park to the south. You can walk right over the bridge to Dupont Circle, or head in the other direction to all the favorite East Village attractions. Wisconsin Avenue with its incredible variety of boutique retailers nd top restaurants is only about six blocks away.
