More About the Flats at Union Row, Washington, DC
The Union Row complex at 2125 14th Street features a large and contemporary front facing structure with huge expanses of windows and buff bricks. But this isn't an ordinary building, but instead, a community with various paving patterns and a street level corridor that segues into an inner courtyard with plantings and water features, as well as entries to the warehouse residences with their factory like vibes. The Flats building has nine levels, with the top two developed to bi-level penthouses. Entering the condos whether true flats or duplexes the interior design is all about industrial chic, with high concrete ceilings, exposed ductwork, wood floors, and giant walls of windows. The chef-style kitchens usually hug a single wall and are completely open to the main living areas, with stone counters, stainless steel appliances, and cabinetry reminiscent of Scandinavian modern wood design. The word flats is actually something of a misnomer, because instead of cookie cutter apartment-style condos, these are actually much closer to loft designs. The penthouses also have roof level decks, and some have additional balconies as well.
Those lucky enough to live at the pet-friendly Flats at Union Row enjoy a nice selection of full service amenities, including a modern lobby with 24/7 staff and concierge, a lounge and party room with a bar, media and fireplace, a rooftop deck with fire features, garage parking, a bike room, and extra storage. The neighborhood setting is also part of the appeal, a couple blocks north of U Street and a block from the well-known Meridian Hill Park with its unique cascading water terraces. There are plenty of nearby coffee shops and restaurants such as Busboys and Poets, Mayden, Lost Society, and Tatte Bakery & Caf . Whole Foods is also conveniently close. The U Street Corridor is an elongated strip of a community that can also overlap with other communities. In this case, the Union Row condos are on the fringe of the southern part of Columbia Heights.
