Fairfax City Luxury Real Estate

There are a variety of architectural styles in Fairfax City, established over a lengthy period of development. The oldest homes reflect traditional designs of the era, including farmhouses in Victorian, Queen Anne, and Classical Revival styles, along with Colonial center hall homes with brick exteriors and clapboard cottages. With the 20th century came more variations on Colonial designs including Dutch Revival, along with Cape Cods, Tudors, Rambler and Split-Levels. New construction in the city tends to reflect these archetypical styles, with luxurious custom versions of Colonial and Victorian architecture, as well as Arts and Crafts. New homes are mostly the result of teardowns, or substantial rebuilds. There are also a number of upscale townhouse communities, as well as condos. Overall, the design aesthetic is one that pays tribute to one of the oldest cities in the region.

More About Fairfax City, Virginia

The history of Fairfax City goes back to rural farmland in the 1700s. By 1805 the Town of Providence emerged, built around the original Fairfax County Courthouse (the courthouse is now in its third iteration). The Town of Providence became known as the Town of Fairfax in 1874 and was incorporated as the independent City of Fairfax in 1961. Fairfax City is now the most commonly used moniker for the City of Fairfax. The city is surrounded by Fairfax County itself, and though the city is the historic seat of the county, it is now officially independent of it. At the heart of the city is its Old Town area, along with the City of Fairfax Historic District. Local pride runs deep, reflected in the determination of city planners to preserve the history of a place that was once the scene of Civil War conflicts.

Today’s Fairfax City is one of the best places to live in Northern Virginia, combining urban and suburban elements in a little over six square miles. There’s enough space for gracious homes on quiet, tree-lined streets, with the added fun and advantage of Old Town Fairfax and its many attractions. There are local greenspaces including Daniels Run Park and the Army Navy Country Club, museums, tennis courts, movie theaters, live music, art galleries, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Food shoppers have lots of options including Americana Grocery, 99 Ranch Market, Amazon Fresh, Safeway, Trader Joe’s, and a Saturday’s farmers market. With a refreshing variety of luxury homes for sale, this is a very sought-after real estate marketplace.
