More About Cityline at Tenley, Washington, DC
The large Cityline complex was originally a Sears department store, built in 1941 with a distinctive Streamline Moderne design featuring curvilinear facades. The well-known architectural firm of Shalom Baranes was brought in to shepherd the ambitious transformation to condominium residences, with several stores at the street level including Target Grocery, the Container Store, and Ace Hardware. Additionally, the Tenleytown-AU Metro Station has entrances on both sides of Wisconsin Avenue, including by Cityline at Tenley. The Tenleytown neighborhood is immediately east of American University Park and south of Friendship Heights.
