Barclay North Condominiums
Located at 1332 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 | Logan Circle
Located at the corner of 15th and O Street in the Logan Circle neighborhood, Barclay North is a historic former apartment building that was redeveloped and converted into 19 condominium residences. Originally built in 1914, the Beaux-Arts structure with its limestone façade and red tile roof, is associated with its next-door neighbor, Barclay South. Although the two structures were redeveloped by the same entity and share somewhat similar exterior architecture, they were actually built several decades apart.
Condos at the four-story Barclay North come in a variety of floorplans, with one-bedroom, one-bedroom plus den, and two-bedroom models, ranging in size from about 420 to 900 square feet. This is a prime Logan Circle location, close to shops and dining, with a fascinating blend of architectural styles both new and old. The neighborhood has responded to Washington, DC’s housing crunch with new construction as well as intriguing adaptations of historic commercial and residential structures. Other redevelopment projects in the immediate area include the Rainbow Lofts (a former auto body shop), Citta 50 (a one-time coal factory), Cooper Lewis (a longtime local hardware store), and the Berret School Lofts (once a schoolhouse).
More About Barclay North, Washington, DC
When Barclay North was being renovated and transformed into condos in 1980, a choice was made to remain true to the original charm of the building while still providing modern improvements. During the years that have ensued, many owners have engaged in subsequent remodels. Some units have vintage parquet floors while others have bamboo or other hardwoods. A number of condos in the building have fireplaces. The kitchens are nicely fixed up, although some are still in the original galley configuration while others have had walls opened up to the main living areas. There is a downstairs lobby and lovely outdoor gardens and brick walkways. The circular stairway from level one to four, is one of the building’s original signatures with ornate balustrades. Condo fees include membership at the next-door Holiday Inn swimming pool.
The pet-friendly Barclay North is close to a number of grassy areas, such as the inner part of the Logan Circle roundabout, Scott Circle, and Stead Park. There is a Whole Foods Market about a block away on P Street, and the number of local restaurants is astounding, particularly along the 14th Street corridor. Whether it’s casual pickup food or sit-down dining, you’ll find plenty of options, including Milk Bar, Shake Shack, Call Your Mother Deli, Commissary, Birch & Barley, Logan Tavern, and so many more. Surrounding neighborhoods include Dupont Circle to the west, the U Street Corridor to the north, Shaw to the east, and Downtown DC to the south.
